Dedicated professional with the ability to work through complex details to align UX strategies with business goals. I enjoy working independently and taking initiative to create useful & desireable digital products.
After graduating from Porter High School of Technology studying drafting, architecture and CAD in 1996, I enrolled at UT Brownsville in Art and Musical studies where my creative passion blossomed. By the time knowledge of the dot com bubble apex reached my part of the world, I turned my focus to Digital Media Technology and earned an Associates of Applied Science practicing the use of software and tools for real-world applications in graphic design, animation, video, interactive and web technologies. That was it – I was hooked. I would spend the next 20 years keeping up with evolving technology, crafting interfaces and experiences that has reached millions of people.
I jumped right in and spent a few years at start-ups learning as much as I could and spending early mornings and late nights designing and coding interactive media for small businesses in banking, automotive, leisure activities and non-profits. I credit those days for my abilities to adapt to new technologies and trends as well as researching and working independently. I loved it. I had my own schedule, worked in a creative field within technology and the thrill of launching interactive media content and campaigns after marathon shifts was exhilarating. But, after an opportunity to teach web design at my alma mater, my focus once again changed to the advocacy of web design standards and the development process.
All of a sudden, I was 25 years old teaching web design to college students as an adjunct instructor with no background in teaching or education! What was I thinking?! It was an experience that was intimidating and challenging, but came with rewards that were instrumental to my growth. I learned new skills in instructional design and about the practice and study of human-computer interaction (HCI). These key skills now allowed me to present in front of an audience objectively using research, data and visual artifacts. After a few years of teaching and attending a few SXSW expos, I was itching to get back in the trenches myself. My new goal of "going world-wide" working with a brand quickly became a reality after moving to Dallas to start the next chapter of my career with a focus in User Experience and Interface design in Agile development process.
